Can your liver swell?

I've been feeling a bit heavy and sometimes even tender in my upper right abdomen area lately. I was just wondering, is it possible for the liver to actually swell up or get enlarged due to some health issue? What would that feel like?

Yes, absolutely it can. I had fatty liver grade 2 and my doctor told me the liver was quite inflamed and swollen. I cut down on heavy fried food and started walking 40 minutes daily. Within six months, my ultrasound report showed it was back to normal size.

I read online that liver inflammation can happen due to many metabolic issues, even with PCOS sometimes. It is better not to ignore it if you are feeling any heavy pressure on the right side of your stomach. Please consult your physician and get an LFT test done to be absolutely sure.

I see this query often here, and yes, liver swelling is quite common nowadays due to lifestyle changes. The good news is that the liver is highly resilient and can heal itself if you catch the issue early. Start with a simple doctor visit and cut out processed food and alcohol completely.

Oh yes, the liver can definitely swell up if we treat it like a dustbin with too much heavy butter and street food! My uncle had this issue and had to go on a strict bland diet for weeks. It was a nightmare for him to stay away from paranthas, but you have to give your liver a break sometimes!

Yes, it can swell up. My grandmother used to suggest drinking simple buttermilk with curry leaves for cooling the stomach, which is good for digestion. But honestly, please visit your doctor first to get a proper medical scan, as the liver is a very vital organ.

Yes, fatty liver often goes hand in hand with high blood sugar levels. When I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, my doctor also checked my liver and found some swelling. Keeping your blood sugar in control through a low-carb diet helps reduce the stress and swelling in the liver too.

Yes, liver swelling is clinically known as hepatomegaly. My doctor explained that it can happen due to fat accumulation, viral infections, or even certain medications. He stressed that a proper ultrasound and blood panel are the only ways to find the actual underlying root cause.

My teenage son had liver swelling last year after a severe bout of jaundice. We were so scared, but the pediatrician guided us well with a simple diet of boiled food and plenty of fluids. Do not let them do heavy physical exertion till the doctor says the swelling has completely gone down.
