Can your kidney rupture?

My uncle had a bad fall last week and ended up in the hospital with a severe injury. Someone mentioned his kidney might have ruptured, which sounds quite serious. Can a kidney actually rupture from trauma, or is it a very rare occurrence?

Oh god, even reading the word rupture makes me so anxious about my minor back aches. Yes, it is rare but can happen due to severe physical trauma or untreated blocks. Please go to a hospital immediately if you have unbearable flank pain or see blood in your urine.

I am just reading about this and it sounds quite serious. Can a kidney rupture happen due to a bad fall, or is it mostly because of internal medical issues like big kidney stones?

Yes, a kidney rupture is a life-threatening emergency often caused by accidents or advanced blockages. If you have intense pain, fever, or blood in your urine, do not waste time on internet forums. Go straight to a urologist or an emergency ward.

Staying up late drinking third-rate coffee makes me feel like my kidneys are crying, but a real rupture is a massive emergency. It usually takes a severe accident or a major blockage to cause that. Don't worry, yours won't just tear open for no reason.

I totally get it, hearing terms like 'rupture' can be incredibly scary and stressful. Just remember that it is a very rare occurrence usually linked to major injuries or severe blockages. If you are feeling unwell, seeing a doctor will help ease your mind completely.
