Can you wake up with a migraine?

Sometimes I go to bed feeling perfectly fine, but then I wake up in the morning with a throbbing headache that feels like a migraine. Is it normal to have a migraine attack start while you're sleeping and wake you up with it?

Waking up with a heavy headache is very common if your sleep was disturbed or if your blood pressure is fluctuating. I have high BP and always check my readings when this happens. Make sure you get regular checkups and manage your daily stress.

Yes dear, morning migraines are actually very common because our pain-fighting hormones are at their lowest early in the morning. I have helped many in this group with this issue; try keeping a bottle of water and a light snack by your bed. Avoiding long gaps in meals at night really helps.

While morning headaches are common, waking up with a severe, throbbing migraine repeatedly should not be ignored. It could be due to sleep apnea or dental grinding at night. Please get it properly evaluated by a neurologist to rule out any serious issues.

I totally get it, waking up with a pounding migraine ruins your entire day before it even begins. The light hurts, the noise hurts, and you just want to stay in a dark room. Please don't force yourself to work, just take rest and let it pass.

Haan yaar, subah subah sir dard lekar uthna is the worst feeling, na? It usually happens if dinner heavy tha or sleep complete nahi hui. Try doing some light stretching and drink warm ginger water, it gives a lot of relief.

Bro, I get these morning migraines almost every weekend when I sleep extra or get dehydrated. Honestly, the only thing that works for me is drinking a massive glass of water immediately and sitting in a dark room for an hour. Don't skip breakfast, it makes it worse.

Waking up with a migraine is your brain's way of saying 'unsubscribing from today's trial version!' Seriously though, just tell your boss your head is hosting a live rock concert and take the day off. Sleep it out!

Look, if you are waking up with a migraine, you are probably messing up your sleep cycle or staring at your phone late into the night. Fix your bedtime, drink enough water, and stop taking random painkillers. If it still persists, go see a doctor.

Agree with the others here. Taking a hot water shower immediately after waking up helps relax the tensed neck muscles.

I am so sorry you are dealing with this painful start to your morning. Please turn off your phone, close your eyes, and try to get a little more quiet rest. Take care.

As someone managing diabetes, I have to be very careful because sudden morning headaches can sometimes be a sign of low blood sugar during the night. If you are diabetic, please check your fasting sugars when you wake up with a migraine and discuss it with your physician.

Ho na, waking up with that throbbing pain in half of the head is so exhausting. Actually, even I face this when I have too much tea or tea at the wrong time. Just lie down in a quiet room and apply some pain balm, it will help slowly.

I used to wake up with migraines until I started tracking my sleep cycles and hydration levels on my smartwatch. I realized my deep sleep was very low on nights before a migraine. Try tracking your sleep patterns, it might give you some very useful insights.

I can't offer any medical advice, but in my personal experience, morning migraines are heavily triggered by sleeping under a direct AC draft or skipping dinner. I started wearing an eye mask and keeping my room temperature moderate, which significantly reduced my attacks.

Oh dear, morning migraines are such a party pooper! 🤕 Please keep your room super dark, put on some soothing instrumental music, and sip on warm chamomile tea. Sending you lots of positive vibes to feel better soon! 🌸
