Can you use sick leave for mental health?

Feeling really overwhelmed and burnt out at work lately, it's impacting my sleep and focus. I'm wondering if I can actually use my sick leave days for mental health reasons, or is it strictly for physical illnesses? My company policy isn't very clear on this.

Yes, you can absolutely use sick leave for mental health. You don't need to give your manager a detailed explanation; just stating that you are unwell is legally and professionally sufficient in most corporate setups.

My father always says that if your mind is not at peace, your body will eventually suffer. When I faced severe stress, my doctor advised me to take a few days off using my sick leave. Please prioritize your peace and take that break.

Yes, taking sick leave for mental wellness is crucial. If you do take a day off, try to spend some time walking in nature or doing light exercise if you feel up to it. It really helps clear the mind.

I used my sick leave last month when burnout hit me hard. I just emailed HR saying I was unwell and needed rest, and it was totally fine. Don't feel guilty about taking time off to heal.

Your brain needs recovery days just like your muscles do. Using sick leave for mental health is totally valid. Use that day to eat clean, get some sunlight, and disconnect from your screens.
