Can you use hydrocortisone cream for eczema?

I've been having some really itchy patches on my arms and legs, and a friend said it looks like eczema. I have some hydrocortisone cream at home that I used for insect bites. Is it okay to apply this cream for suspected eczema?

Hydrocortisone cream works well for quick flare-ups, but don't rely on it long-term. As a busy professional, I don't have time for endless doctor visits, but skin thinning is a real side effect. Use it for 3-5 days maximum and consult a doctor if it doesn't clear up.

Do not start applying OTC hydrocortisone creams blindly. Eczema needs a proper diagnosis because steroid creams can worsen other fungal infections if misdiagnosed. Get it checked by a dermatologist first.

I know how stressful and itchy eczema can get, it literally keeps you awake at night. Hydrocortisone can bring great immediate relief, but please be careful not to use it on your face or for too many days continuously, as it can cause rebound redness.

Eczema itching can be very painful. Yes, that hydrocortisone tube is available at the local chemist and it helps a lot with the burning. Just apply a tiny bit and don't let children touch it.

My mother used to suggest applying simple virgin coconut oil for any skin dry patches. While coconut oil is very soothing for daily maintenance, my doctor advised using hydrocortisone cream only when the eczema gets very red and inflamed.

Yes, hydrocortisone is the standard starting treatment for eczema itching. My tip is to apply a very thin layer only on the active red patches, and always follow up with a heavy, fragrance-free moisturizer after ten minutes to lock in hydration.

I just recovered from a nasty eczema flare-up on my wrists. My doctor prescribed a mild hydrocortisone cream for exactly one week along with a barrier repair lotion. The combination worked perfectly and the itching stopped almost instantly.

Hey, don't stress too much about the rash! Grab a mild hydrocortisone cream from the pharmacy, it really helps with the crazy itching. Just don't overuse it like a daily lotion and you'll be totally fine.

Whenever I eat too much spicy street food, my eczema flares up on my elbows! Hydrocortisone cream is my emergency backup to stop the scratch cycle, but I also have to cut down on the spicy chaat to let my skin heal.

I have had chronic eczema on my ankles for years. I personally use a mild 1% hydrocortisone cream during bad flare-ups, and it usually calms the itching within a couple of days. I always stop using it the moment the redness fades.
