Can you use a smokers jacket for sleep?

I found an old 'smoker's jacket' at my ancestral home, and it's quite cozy. I was thinking of using it as a nightgown. Is there any health risk or safety concern if you use a smoker's jacket for sleeping, maybe due to fabric or residual smell?

I would worry so much about the heavy fabric trapping too much body heat and causing night sweats or skin irritation. Is the material really safe to wear for long hours while sleeping? Maybe lightweight cotton pajamas would be much safer and less stressful for your skin.

Just like keeping our diet light for stable sugar levels, we need our nightwear to be light and breathable. Heavy smoking jackets made of velvet or thick wool might make you feel suffocated and disrupt your sleep cycle, which is bad for overall health.

If you are experiencing sleep issues or feeling too cold at night, it is best to discuss it with a doctor. Wearing heavy outdoor or lounge clothing like a smoking jacket to bed isn't a standard solution and might mask underlying temperature regulation issues.

Honestly, smoking jackets are heavy and quite expensive. Why go for all that hassle when a simple cotton nightgown or loose t-shirt works perfectly? Keep it simple, wash it easily, and sleep comfortably without spending extra.

Unless you are trying to look like a royal detective from some old suspense movie in your dreams, it sounds super uncomfortable! You will probably wake up completely drenched in sweat. Stick to normal t-shirts, buddy!

At this point, I would sleep in a spacesuit if it actually helped me get more than four hours of sleep! But seriously, those heavy jackets are way too stiff. You need something soft and loose if you actually want to rest.

I tried sleeping in a heavy velvet lounge jacket once during a cold winter night in Punjab. It felt cozy for an hour, but soon became too restrictive and heavy to move around in. Proper thermal innerwear is a hundred times better for sleep.
