Can you take amoxicillin for tooth pain?

I have a terrible toothache right now and it's making it hard to eat or sleep. A friend suggested that I might need an antibiotic. Can you take amoxicillin for tooth pain, even if it's not an infection yet?

Don't just take antibiotics like amoxicillin like they are regular painkillers. It won't stop the pain immediately and is bad for your body. Go to a dentist and get it checked properly.

Amoxicillin is an antibiotic, it will only help if there is an infection, not just pain. While you wait to see a dentist, press a clove gently near the aching tooth; it gives good relief.

Tooth pain is the absolute worst, I haven't slept all night because of it! But amoxicillin won't magically stop the pain right now. Better to take a painkiller prescribed by your dentist and get some sleep.

Taking amoxicillin for tooth pain is like calling a fire brigade for a small candle! It's an antibiotic, not a painkiller. Better to consult your dentist before starting any heavy course.

I had a terrible tooth infection last month. My dentist prescribed amoxicillin along with a painkiller, and the pain only went away once the infection cleared up. Please visit a dentist first.
