Can you take a mental health break from work?

My work has been incredibly stressful lately, and I feel completely burnt out. I've been thinking about taking some time off for my mental well-being. Is it possible to officially take a 'mental health break' from work in India?

You definitely should if you are feeling overwhelmed. I ignored work stress for years until my blood pressure shot up to dangerous levels during a meeting. Please monitor your health, get regular checkups, and take a few days off to walk and rest before your body forces you to.

I really want to take one but I am so scared my manager will think I am slacking off. Has anyone here actually asked for a mental health leave in an Indian corporate setup without facing awkward questions later?

Our peace of mind is the greatest wealth we have in this life. Work will always be there, but your spirit needs rest to heal. Take a few days off to connect with nature and quieten your mind, it will do wonders.

Yes, you absolutely can and should. If your company doesn't have a specific 'mental health leave' policy, just apply for normal sick leave or casual leave. You don't need to give them every personal detail, just say you are unwell and need rest.

Absolutely, just take it. Burnout is real and it tanks your productivity anyway. Just drop an email saying you have a medical issue, take 3 days off, switch off your Slack, and actually disconnect.

Bro, if you don't take a break, your laptop might fly out of the window one day. Just call in sick, tell them you have a bad stomach, and spend the day sleeping. Your office will survive without you for 48 hours, trust me!

Stress releases cortisol which directly spikes your blood sugar levels. When my work stress got too high, my fasting sugar crossed 180 despite my meds. I had to take a week's break to fix my routine, sleep, and diet. Health comes first.
