Can you stop taking thyroid meds?

My wife has been on thyroid meds for years, and sometimes she feels better and wants to try stopping them. Her friend said she managed to reduce her dose. Is it generally safe or advisable to try and stop taking thyroid medications?

My teenage daughter has to take these pills and she often complains about it. As a parent, I understand the desire to stop, but the doctor explained that the body needs this hormone to function properly. Please don't stop the medicine without consulting your specialist first, as it can affect their growth and energy.

Humare ghar me bhi bhabhi ko thyroid ki dikkat hai. Vo niyam se roz subah goli khati hain tabhi unka swasthya theek rehta hai. Is dawa ko apne se kabhi band nahi karna chahiye, hamesha bade doctor se pooch kar hi faisla lein.

Haan, lagta toh hai ki kab tak ye goli khani padegi, na? Par thyroid hormone humare body metabolism ke liye bohot zaroori hai. Bina doctor se baat kiye isko band mat karna, nahi toh fatigue aur weight gain fir se hone lagega.

You shouldn't stop your thyroid medication on your own, even if your latest reports are completely normal. The normal range is achieved precisely because of the external hormone support. Get your blood tests done every three to six months and let your doctor decide on any dose changes.

I have been taking my thyroid medication for over twenty-five years now. In my younger days, I tried stopping it once and ended up feeling extremely weak and depressed within a few weeks. Trust my experience, taking that tiny tablet every morning is a very small price to pay for a healthy, active life.
