Can you still get drafted if you have asthma?

My friend is thinking about joining the armed forces, but he has mild asthma that's generally well-controlled. He's wondering if his asthma will prevent him from being drafted or joining. Can you still get drafted if you have asthma?

I used to worry about this a lot when reading about foreign militaries. Honestly, don't worry, even in countries with a draft, documented active asthma is almost always a medical exemption.

In India we don't have an active military draft, but for voluntary defense forces, medical rules are very strict. If you have chronic asthma, you are usually disqualified during the medical examination.

I get so anxious thinking about extreme scenarios like this! But practically speaking, medical boards are very strict about chronic respiratory conditions, so you are definitely safe from any draft.

Haan bhai, military medicals mein toh direct reject kar dete hain agar asthma ki history ho toh na. Physical test and running clear karna hi mushkil ho jayega breathing issues ke sath.

Health is the greatest wealth, son. For military service, they need fully fit lungs, so they do not select children with breathing troubles, but you can keep your lungs healthy at home with daily pranayama.

Well, unless you want to use your inhaler as a secret weapon, the military is definitely going to say no to you. Enjoy your peaceful sleep at home, no boot camps for you!
