Can you still get breast cancer after a double mastectomy?

My aunt had a double mastectomy due to breast cancer a few years ago, and she's been cancer-free since. Recently, she started worrying again. Can you still get breast cancer after a double mastectomy, or does it completely eliminate the risk?

Yes, it is still possible because some microscopic breast tissue can remain after surgery. It's best to follow up regularly with your oncologist and continue with any recommended scans.

When my mother had her surgery at Tata Memorial, the doctors clearly explained that a small risk remains. Please consult your oncologist and get a clear picture of your specific follow-up plan.

While a tiny risk can remain, keeping your mind calm and your body stress-free is very helpful. Practice deep breathing to manage the anxiety of recovery.

This thought keeps me awake at night too, but the risk is actually extremely low after a double mastectomy. Try to stay positive and keep up with your regular medical appointments.

While there's still a tiny chance because of leftover tissue, keeping your body active helps lower recurrence risks. Once your doctor gives permission, light walking or regular exercise is great for long-term health.
