Can you still feel pain with laughing gas?

I'm a bit nervous about getting a root canal, and my dentist said they use laughing gas for anxiety. I'm wondering if it completely numbs the pain, or if you can still feel pain with laughing gas. I really don't want to feel anything.

Laughing gas just relaxes you, it doesn't completely block pain like local anesthesia. Make sure you don't eat a very heavy meal right before the procedure to avoid feeling nauseous.

I have a dental appointment next week and I am so scared! Has anyone else felt sharp pain even while inhaling the gas, or does it completely numb you?

Hey, don't stress too much! Laughing gas just makes you feel happy and a bit floaty, but the dentist will still give you a numbing injection so you won't feel any real pain.

It is completely normal to feel scared about feeling pain during dental work. Yes, you can still feel pressure and some mild pain because laughing gas only calms your anxiety, it doesn't fully numb the nerve.

I had a bad experience where the gas made me dizzy but didn't stop the pain because the dentist didn't inject enough numbing agent. Be very vocal and tell them to stop if you feel sharp pain.

Yes, you can still feel pressure. It only reduces anxiety, so you usually need local numbing injections as well.

Just speak to the dentist beforehand and agree on a hand signal if you feel pain. They usually combine laughing gas with local anesthesia injections, so pain is rarely an issue.

In our days we just bore the pain, but modern ways are better. You might feel a little pinch, but you can rinse with warm salt water at home later to ease any soreness after the doctor finishes.

Laughing gas works fast and wears off in minutes, which is great for getting back to work. Just tell your dentist immediately if you feel pain, and they will adjust the local numbing dose.
