Can you sleep with one eye open?

My wife sometimes says I sleep with one eye partially open, especially if I'm really tired. I wanted to know if this is a normal thing for some people or if it indicates some kind of sleeping issue. Does anyone else experience this?

Man, I can barely keep both my eyes closed with all the office stress, let alone trying to sleep with one open! If you are actually doing this, your eyes must be so dry. Please get some proper blackout curtains and sleep peacefully.

Sometimes our body does strange things when we are holding on to deep stress or anxiety. Try to meditate for five minutes before sleeping to relax your facial muscles. Take care of yourself, and let your body fully rest in peace.

Sleeping with an eye partially open can sometimes be linked to thyroid eye conditions or nerve issues. I had some muscle stiffness myself due to thyroid fluctuations. It is best to consult an ophthalmologist to find the real reason.

This is called lagophthalmos and it is not safe for your eyes. Please see an eye specialist to get proper eye drops or a sleep mask.

Sleeping with an open eye can dry out your cornea and cause irritation. Try practicing Shavasana and deep abdominal breathing before sleep to relax your nervous system, so your eyelids close naturally and fully.
