Can you sleep with gauze in your mouth?

I just had a wisdom tooth extraction, and the dentist said to keep gauze on for some time. I was wondering if it's safe to sleep with gauze in my mouth if there's still some light bleeding, or if I should definitely remove it before bed?

Agree with warnings, do not sleep with gauze in your mouth as it is a major choking hazard. Remove it before you doze off.

Please don't sleep with gauze inside your mouth! It can easily slip down your throat while you are fast asleep. If you just had a tooth extraction, spit the gauze out after an hour as advised by your dentist.

Unless you want to swallow cotton and have it for breakfast, spit it out before sleeping! Jokes apart, it is really dangerous to sleep with anything loose in your mouth. Just let the blood clot naturally.

It is definitely not safe to sleep with gauze because of the choking risk. If the bleeding from your dental surgery hasn't stopped even after a few hours, please call your dentist instead of trying to manage it overnight yourself.

Do you want to wake up gasping for air? Absolutely do not sleep with gauze in your mouth. If you still have minor bleeding, just place a damp tea bag there for 20 minutes before sleeping to help it clot, then spit it out.

I am so tired I could sleep through an earthquake, but even I wouldn't risk sleeping with gauze in my mouth. If it slips, you will wake up choking. Just spit it out and put a towel on your pillow to handle any minor drooling.
