Can you sleep with cold eye gel mask?

My eyes often feel tired and puffy after working on the computer all day. I use a cold eye gel mask sometimes. Would it be safe and effective to sleep with a cold eye gel mask on overnight to reduce puffiness and dark circles?

No, sleeping in a cold gel mask is a bad idea. They are designed for a 15-minute quick de-puff session, not for overnight use. Plus, the strap can put pressure on your eyes all night, which isn't good for your vision.

I get puffy eyes due to hormonal fatigue, and cold gel masks are really soothing. But I never sleep with them because the coldness fades in 20 minutes anyway, and the plastic strap can block healthy circulation around your head. It is better to use it just for a quick evening wind-down.

I have tried various eye masks over the years. A cold gel mask is great to refresh tired eyes after staring at screens, but please remove it before you fall asleep. Keeping cold plastic pressed against your delicate eye area for hours can cause skin irritation.

I asked my eye specialist at Fortis about this. They strongly advised against sleeping with any tight eye masks on as prolonged pressure on the eyeballs can increase intraocular pressure. Always ask your eye doctor clearly before using these products overnight.

To calm the eyes, taking a few minutes of quiet silence or rubbing your palms together and placing them over your eyes works beautifully. If you like the gel mask, enjoy its cooling touch for 10 minutes, then put it aside, let your mind relax, and have a peaceful sleep.

Honestly, I tried sleeping with my gel mask during college exams, but it just ended up sliding down to my neck by midnight. It doesn't stay in place anyway, so it's better to just use it for a few minutes while listening to music.

For eye health, I always focus on managing my blood sugar levels and getting regular retina checkups. Using a cold mask overnight is not recommended because prolonged cold can restrict blood vessels unnecessarily. Stick to basic, short-term usage only.
