Can you sleep with a weighted blanket?

My friend recently bought a weighted blanket and says it really helps her anxiety and sleep. I'm considering getting one, but I'm wondering if it's safe and comfortable to sleep with a weighted blanket on all night, especially in our climate?

I sleep with a weighted blanket to help with the sleep issues and body aches caused by my thyroid. However, if your sleep problems are very severe, make sure you get your TSH levels tested. Sometimes, it's just a hormonal imbalance that a doctor needs to address with proper medication.

When my wife had severe sleep apnea, we went to a specialist at Max Hospital. The doctor warned us that people with respiratory or breathing issues should never use weighted blankets. It is always better to consult your physician clearly before trying these sleep aids.

I really want to buy one for my sleep anxiety, but I'm worried it will make me feel trapped or claustrophobic in the middle of the night. Did anyone else feel a bit claustrophobic or hot when they first started using a weighted blanket?

I can only speak from my personal experience of using a 7 kg weighted blanket. It really helped me sleep deeper and reduced my leg tossing at night. I don't know the medical side of it, but it worked well for my general restlessness.

In our younger days, we used heavy hand-woven cotton quilts (razais) which did the exact same job as these modern weighted blankets. They keep the body warm and calm the nerves naturally. Just ensure it is not too heavy for small children or elders who might find it hard to move.

I was super skeptical about weighted blankets, but I finally bought one last winter. Honestly, it feels like a warm, secure hug and really helps me calm down after a hectic workday. Just make sure you get one that is only about 10% of your body weight so it doesn't feel suffocating.

Yeah, you can sleep with it, but make sure the weight is right for you. I bought a really heavy one first and woke up with a stiff neck and sore shoulders. Stick to the 10% of your body weight rule and you'll be fine.

My mother always suggested using a simple light cotton sheet for our hot climate, but my doctor said a breathable bamboo weighted blanket is perfectly fine for my anxiety. I find it very soothing, but I made sure my doctor cleared it first since I have mild asthma.

Look, if you don't have asthma or joint problems, go ahead and sleep with it. But don't buy those extremely heavy ones thinking they will cure insomnia in one day. Start with a lighter version and see if your body actually likes the pressure.

Absolutely, sleeping with a weighted blanket is great for sensory regulation and deep sleep. Just buy a high-quality glass-bead one with a cooling cover so you don't sweat in our Indian weather. It's a solid investment if you have high-stress workdays.
