Can you sleep with a space heater on?

My room gets quite cold in the winter nights, and I've been using a small space heater to keep warm. Is it safe to leave a space heater on throughout the night while I'm sleeping, or are there any health or safety risks I should know about?

It is really not safe to leave a space heater on all night. It dries out the air completely and can be a fire hazard.

I used to do this during cold desert winters, but woke up with dry throat and nosebleeds. Now, I just heat the room for an hour before sleeping, turn it off, and use a heavy double-ply blanket or a hot water bottle near my feet. It works beautifully and naturally.

Yaar, dilli ki thand me man to karta hai, but don't keep it running all night na. Rooms become super dry and you will wake up with a scratchy throat. Haan, sleeping with a heater on can also lead to carbon monoxide issues if the room is fully sealed.

Never leave a cheap rod heater on while sleeping, man, it's super risky. If you really need heating, get an oil-filled radiator (OFR) which is much safer and doesn't burn up the oxygen in the room. Still, setting a timer is the best way to go.

I would avoid keeping a heater on all night. The dry air can worsen skin sensitivity, which is already a struggle for some of us with PCOS. Try using warm winter sheets and turning off the heater once the room is warm enough to sleep.

While it is tempting in severe winters, sleeping with a space heater on is generally discouraged by safety experts. If you have chronic breathing issues, the dry air can make it worse, so checking with your family doctor about maintaining room humidity is wise. If you must use one, ensure it has an auto-shutoff feature.

From a practical safety point, running a heater overnight reduces humidity drastically, which can irritate your respiratory tract. It can trigger dry coughs or asthma attacks. It is much safer to warm the room first, shut it off, and trap the heat using thick curtains.
