Can you sleep with a lidocaine patch on?

My doctor gave me lidocaine patches for my chronic back pain, and they really help. I was wondering if it's safe to keep the patch on overnight while I sleep, or if there's a limit to how long it should be applied?

I totally get how scary it is to try new medical patches, especially when you are in pain and just want to sleep. Honestly, the package rules are very specific about how many hours you can leave it on. Definitely check the prescription guidelines so you don't feel anxious all night.

Beta, these chemical patches should be used strictly as the doctor says. For minor aches, we usually apply a little warm sesame oil or a hot water bottle, which is much safer for overnight. If you must use the patch, make sure it is not kept on for more than 12 hours.

I always try to be very careful with any medicated patches since my body is already sensitive due to hormonal issues. Usually, lidocaine patches have a strict 12-hour limit to prevent too much medicine from entering your system. Please ask your doctor if sleeping with it is okay for your specific case.

I actually don't know much about lidocaine patches yet as I have never used one. Is it safe to apply on the lower back before sleeping? My doctor suggested something similar but I am a bit hesitant to try it overnight without asking around first.

In my 60s, I have had to use these patches quite a few times for my chronic back pain. You can sleep with them, but you must ensure you don't apply any heating pad over the patch, as that can be dangerous. Just stick to the 12-hours-on, 12-hours-off rule and you will be fine.
