Can you sleep too much?

Sometimes I sleep for like 10-12 hours straight on weekends, especially if I'm tired from the week. My husband always teases me about it. Is it actually possible to sleep too much, or is it just catching up on rest?

I completely understand why you are asking this because I used to panic whenever I slept for 10-11 hours, thinking something was seriously wrong with me. Sleeping too much is actually a real thing called hypersomnia, and it can leave you feeling even more tired. Your worries are totally valid.

Honestly, yes. Whenever I sleep for more than 9 hours on weekends, I wake up with a heavy head and feel super lazy the whole day. Keeping a fixed schedule of 7-8 hours is way better than oversleeping.

Yes, sleeping too much can actually affect your body's insulin sensitivity and lifestyle routine. I have to keep my sleep strictly limited to 7-8 hours, as oversleeping messes up my physical activity and meal timings, which causes my blood sugar levels to fluctuate.

Please tell me what sleeping too much feels like because I barely get 5 hours these days! But seriously, my doctor friends say oversleeping can actually make you feel like a zombie and cause bad headaches. Balance is key, I guess.

Yes, chronic oversleeping (more than 9-10 hours regularly) can be a sign of underlying issues like thyroid imbalance, depression, or sleep apnea. If you are constantly feeling the need to sleep excessively, it is best to consult a physician for a proper evaluation.

I was sleeping for 11 hours daily and still waking up exhausted. I finally got a blood test done last month and found out I had severe Vitamin D and B12 deficiencies. Once I started the doctor's prescribed supplements, my sleep cycle went back to normal.
