Can you sleep in your car in texas?

I'm planning a trekking trip to the Himalayas and might need to sleep in my car for a night or two near the trailhead. I know rules can differ by region, so I'm wondering if it's generally safe and legal to sleep in your car in mountainous regions like Uttarakhand or Himachal Pradesh. What are the common practices for that?

With the Texas heat, sleeping in your car might turn you into a tandoori chicken if you aren't careful! Seriously, it is legal at state rest areas for up to 24 hours, but watch the temperature.

Yes, Texas state law allows you to rest for up to 24 hours at designated highway rest areas. It is a great way to prevent fatigue-related accidents on those long, endless state highways.

My son lives in Texas and says it gets incredibly hot during summer afternoons. Please don't sleep in a parked car with the engine off during the day as heat stroke can happen very quickly. Stay safe.

Is it really safe to do that? I would be constantly looking over my shoulder worrying about safety or state troopers knocking on my window. Has anyone here actually done it safely?

Yes, you can rest at highway stops, but please prioritize your safety. Only sleep in well-lit, populated rest areas, keep your phone fully charged, and lock your vehicle. Don't push yourself if you are feeling too tired.
