Can you sleep in compression socks?

My doctor recommended compression socks for my swollen ankles, and I've been wearing them during the day. I sometimes forget to take them off before bed. Is it fine to sleep overnight wearing compression socks, or should they always be removed before sleeping?

Generally speaking, sleeping in high-grade compression socks is not recommended na. When you lie down, your blood flow changes and tight socks can restrict it further. Better to remove them before going to bed unless your doctor has specifically told you to wear them.

I use them for muscle recovery after heavy leg days, but I always take them off before sleeping. Your body recovers best when blood flow is natural and unrestricted during rest. Keep your active routine clean and let your skin breathe at night.

I used to wear them for my long standing shifts and wondered if I could just sleep in them to reduce swelling. It is actually much safer to take them off and keep your feet slightly elevated on a pillow instead. It feels so much more comfortable too!

I panicked so much when I fell asleep with my compression socks on last month, thinking my circulation would stop! But actually, my doctor said a short nap is totally fine. Just don't wear very tight ones overnight without checking with your specialist first.

Beta, wearing tight socks all night is not good for your blood circulation. Instead, wash your feet with warm water and massage them gently with some mustard oil before sleeping. This is a very safe, traditional way to relieve tired legs.

Unless prescribed for a specific medical condition like deep vein thrombosis, avoid wearing them overnight. Keep track of your leg swelling using a simple daily log. If the swelling doesn't improve with daytime use, please get a proper evaluation from your doctor.
