Can you see cavities in the mirror?

I've been brushing regularly, but I'm getting some pain when I eat sweets or drink cold water. I tried looking in the mirror to see if I could spot anything wrong. Is it possible to see cavities clearly just by looking in a mirror?

I was reading about this because I noticed a dark line on my molar. You can definitely see some cavities in the mirror if they are on the front or the top of your teeth. But apparently, the ones hiding between teeth are invisible to us.

I totally get it, checking your teeth in the mirror with your phone flashlight is so relatable! Sometimes you can spot dark brown or black spots, but minor decay can look like nothing. It is always safer to let a dentist do a proper check.

I literally just got a filling done yesterday for a cavity I couldn't see in the mirror at all. It was hiding right between my back molars and only showed up on the dentist's X-ray. If your tooth feels sensitive, don't rely on just looking.

Please go get a proper dental checkup. I kept looking in the mirror and thought my teeth looked perfectly fine, so I ignored a mild ache. By the time I went to the dentist, the decay was deep and I had to get a painful root canal.

You can sometimes see dark spots or visible holes in the mirror if the cavity is large. However, early decay is hard to spot on your own, so a regular dentist visit is recommended.
