Can you pass a dot physical with type 2 diabetes?

Having Type 2 diabetes, I need to undergo a physical test for a new job opportunity. I'm concerned if my diabetes will be a problem. Is it possible to clear a medical fitness exam even with Type 2 diabetes, assuming my blood sugar is well-controlled?

Yes, you can absolutely pass it. I had to clear my physical last year and as long as your HbA1c is below 8% and you don't have severe complications, they approve it. Just keep your medical history documents ready.

It is very doable, but you must be disciplined with your diet and avoid carbs before the exam. Keep your sugar levels steady and ensure you have no diabetic retinopathy. A clean record of regular checkups helps convince the examiner.

My father went through this recently and he was so worried about his driving clearance. We worked together on his diet and got his sugar levels perfectly normal within two months. You can definitely pass if you stay proactive with your health.

Keep your mind calm and focus on taking care of your body. If you maintain a peaceful lifestyle and follow your doctor's path, your health indicators will naturally align. Blessings to you, you will clear the physical exam easily.

There is no blanket ban on Type 2 diabetes for commercial driving anymore. You just need to show that your condition is stable and managed well, either through oral meds or insulin. Get a clearance letter from your endocrinologist to speed up the process.
