Can you join the military with diabetes type 2?

I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes recently, but I'm managing it well with diet and exercise. I had plans to join the military before this. Will having Type 2 diabetes automatically disqualify me from joining?

If you have Type 2, your focus should be on diet control and getting your HbA1c to normal levels. However, as far as military rules go, a clinical history of diabetes is a red flag. Focus on management and look into administrative or police roles where rules might differ.

I know how painful it is to let go of a dream just because of a medical report. I went through a similar heartbreak with my health issues. It takes time to accept, but your safety and long-term well-being are what matter the most.

Beta, the military requires people to run and work in very hard climates without proper food for hours. If your sugar levels fluctuate, it can be dangerous for your life. Take care of your health first, that is most important.

My cousin got rejected in the medical phase because of his elevated HbA1c levels and Type 2 diagnosis. They check your blood reports very strictly, so hiding it is impossible. Better to look for other options, brother.

I served for many years, and I can tell you that managing metabolic health like Type 2 diabetes is not possible under field conditions. Do not be disheartened by this restriction. There are many civil service roles where you can contribute to the nation.
