Can you join the marine corps with asthma?

I have well-controlled asthma, but I've always admired the Marine Corps and want to join. I'm wondering if my medical condition will be a barrier. Can someone join the Marine Corps with asthma?

I always drink warm ginger water to keep my airways clear, but for military-level training, these home tips won't suffice. Active asthma is a serious safety concern under physical pressure. Please get a proper clinical evaluation from a pulmonologist.

I used to panic thinking my childhood wheezing would ruin my career options. But when I got checked later, my lung function was completely normal and I didn't need any waivers. If your asthma was very mild and long ago, there might still be hope.

I know how disappointing it is to face medical barriers when you want to achieve your dreams. But the training in the marines is incredibly intense, and they cannot risk anyone having an attack in remote areas. Please prioritize your long-term health.

Active respiratory issues are a major risk during combat drills and swimming tests. For safety reasons, you must get your spirometry and methacholine challenge tests reviewed by a specialist before applying.

If you have a history of asthma after your 13th birthday, getting in is extremely difficult. If you are currently symptom-free, you will need to submit a complete set of clean pulmonary function records to request a waiver. Be prepared for a lot of paperwork.
