Can you join the air force with asthma?

Joining the Air Force has been my dream since childhood. I have had asthma since I was young, but it's not severe and I manage it well. I'm wondering if this condition will disqualify me. Can you join the Air Force with asthma?

I know how heartbreaking it feels when your dream is to fly but your own body holds you back. I was devastated when I couldn't clear the medicals due to my breathing history. It is a tough pill to swallow but your safety comes first.

If your asthma is mild and under control, you should try running and breathing exercises to build stamina. But do consult your doctor before starting any intense cardio prep. The Air Force medical test is extremely demanding.

According to standard defense medical boards, a history of asthma after the age of 13 is usually a ground for rejection. My relative who is a military doctor explained that low oxygen environments in high altitudes can trigger severe attacks, making it a major safety risk.

Dekho boss, Air Force doesn't compromise on lung fitness. If you have active wheezing or need an inhaler, they will simply declare you unfit. Be honest about it during the tests, hiding it can lead to trouble later.

Beta, don't lose hope. If your asthma is very old and you don't use medicines now, go to a good government hospital and get a clearance certificate. Show it to the selection board and see if they can allow you.
