Can you have vomiting and diarrhea with the flu?

My sister has been down with what seems like the flu – body aches, cough, and a headache. She also has been experiencing some vomiting and diarrhea. I thought flu was more respiratory, so I'm confused if these stomach issues are part of it. Can you have vomiting and diarrhea with the flu?

Yes, you absolutely can, though it is more common in kids. If you are an adult dealing with both, it could also be gastroenteritis, so make sure you focus on hydration and consult a physician.

My daughter had this last season. The flu hit her with high fever, vomiting, and loose stools all at once. We gave her tiny sips of electoral water every ten minutes to keep her hydrated and took her to the pediatrician.

Yes, stomach symptoms can happen alongside respiratory flu symptoms. Since my system is already sensitive, I try to take absolute rest and have very bland food like warm rice gruel, but definitely consult a doctor.

Oh, when the flu hits, sometimes it decides to attack from both ends! It is exhausting but yes, vomiting and diarrhea can happen. Keep a bucket close, drink your warm water, and sleep it off.

Please be very careful. Severe vomiting and diarrhea can quickly lead to dangerous dehydration. If you are unable to keep any liquids down or feel extremely dizzy, please go to a clinic or hospital immediately.

Bro, yes, I had this during my exams last semester and it was absolute hell. Couldn't eat anything without throwing up and had to keep running to the washroom. Just stick to basic khichdi and ORS.

Yes, dear, it is quite common, especially when a viral infection is going around. Make sure to have light, home-cooked food and avoid any dairy or spicy items until your stomach completely settles down.

Haan yaar, ho jata hai kabhi kabhi. Sardi khansi ke sath pet bhi kharab ho jata hai, use stomach flu bolte hain na. Thoda dhyan rakho, bahar ka bilkul mat khana aur doctor ko dikha lo agar zyada weakness lage.

Yes, it is possible, though not very fun! Just make sure you are resting well and taking enough fluids. A simple glass of coconut water can do wonders to make you feel human again.

Haan babuji, ho sakta hai. Hamare yahan jab sardi-zukam ke sath ulti-dast hota hai toh hum turant doctor sahab ke paas jaate hain. Aap thoda sa sago water ya ORS ka ghol lete rahiye, sharir mein pani kam nahi hona chahiye.

I completely understand how terrifying it is to deal with both symptoms together while having a heavy flu. It can feel like your body is totally failing, but it is actually a known presentation. Try to stay calm and speak to a doctor.

Yes, stomach flu or systemic influenza can cause both. I log my symptoms and hydration levels on my health app, and keeping a track of fluid intake really helps prevent a hospital trip for IV fluids.
