Can you have strep throat and not have a fever?

My son's throat is red and painful, and he feels tired, but his body temperature is normal. Could it still be strep throat if he's not running a fever?

Actually yes, yaar. My roommate had this last month and she had no fever at all, just a super sore throat and swollen glands. We thought it was just cold water but the doctor said it was strep. Better to get it checked instead of guessing.

I totally get it, it is so uncomfortable when your throat feels like sandpaper but because there's no fever, people think you are fine. I had the same issue and it was so painful to even speak. Please take rest and don't strain your voice today.

Yes child, it can happen without a fever too. Sometimes the throat just gets very red and hurts a lot when you try to eat. Drink some warm water with a little honey, it will soothe your throat, and do see the local doctor tomorrow.

Yes, you can have strep without a fever. When I visited the outpatient department at Apollo last year for severe throat pain, the specialist told me that many bacterial infections don't trigger a high temperature. You should ask your doctor clearly for a throat culture test to confirm if it is strep.

Haan, bilkul ho sakta hai, fever hona zaroori nahi hai. Mere saath bhi aisa hua tha, bas gale mein bohot pain tha aur kuch nigla nahi ja raha tha. Aap thoda garam paani piyo aur dr ko dikha lo, na?

Haan na, fever bina bhi throat infection hota hai. Swallowing ka bohot problem hota hai aur gale mein sujan lagti hai. Try doing salt water gargles twice a day, it gives temporary relief, but doctor ko dikhana hi padega.
