Can you have sciatica without back pain?

I have this shooting pain down my leg, almost like an electric shock sometimes, but my back feels completely fine. Can someone have sciatica without experiencing any back pain?

Yes, you can absolutely have sciatica symptoms in the leg without any actual back pain. When I visited the spine specialist at Fortis, he explained that the pressure is on the nerve root but the pain manifests down the thigh or calf. Do get a proper consultation.

Haan bilkul ho sakta hai, mere case mein bhi sirf left calf aur hips mein tez dard tha, back bilkul normal thi. Pura leg sunn ho jata tha kabhi kabhi. Doctor ko dikha lo ek baar, spine ka nerve compression ho sakta hai.

Totally! Sciatica can sneaky like that, just giving you pain in the buttock or foot without touching the back. Don't stress too much about it, but do avoid sitting in deep couches and maybe use a firm mattress for a few days.

Yes, it is very common. You can feel the sharp shooting pain purely in your leg or buttocks while your lower back feels perfectly fine.

I just recovered from this exact issue last month. I only had a burning sensation in my right thigh and heel, no back pain at all, which delayed my diagnosis. Gentle nerve gliding exercises prescribed by my physiotherapist helped me get back on my feet.

Yes, the pain travels along the nerve path down the leg. You can apply a warm heating pad to the painful leg areas for temporary relief, but if you experience any numbness or weakness in your leg, please go see a doctor immediately.
