Can you have sciatic pain on both sides?

Since a few weeks, I've been getting this sharp, shooting pain from my lower back down both of my legs. I always thought sciatica was on one side only. Is it possible to have sciatic pain on both sides?

It can definitely happen on both sides, though it is usually just on one side. I sometimes get bad lower back radiation during my flareups, but true bilateral sciatica can mean something is pressing on the nerve center. Please be careful and see a specialist.

Yes beta, bilateral sciatica is possible if there is a disc issue in the lower back. You can apply a little warm sesame oil mixed with camphor on the back to soothe the nerves, but do not do any heavy bending or yoga stretches without asking a doctor first.

My teenage son had severe shooting pain down both legs after a sports injury, which turned out to be nerve compression. We had to be very strict with his posture and bed rest. Please don't ignore bilateral pain, as it needs proper medical evaluation.

Man, both sides hurt? That sounds terrible, must be keeping you away from your favorite food outings! When my back acts up, I just lie down and order some comfort soup. Jokes apart, double-sided sciatica usually needs a doctor's eye, so get an appointment soon.

Listen, if it is paining on both legs, it's not normal. One-sided is very common, but both sides means your spine nerve is getting squeezed from both ends. Go get an MRI done instead of waiting around for it to magically vanish.

Yes, bilateral sciatica happens. An MRI is usually required to see which disc is pinching, which costs about 5000 to 7000 rupees in private centers. Try checking government diagnostic labs or charity hospitals, they often do the same scans at half the price.
