Can you have pneumonia without a fever?

My son has been coughing a lot and seems very tired, but his temperature is normal. We are worried about pneumonia, especially since he's had chest infections before. Can children or adults actually have pneumonia without developing a fever?

Yes, lung congestion can sometimes settle in silently without raising your body temperature. While daily deep breathing exercises help keep the lungs strong, they cannot cure an active infection. Please get your chest examined by a doctor to ensure your airways are clear and safe.

My father had a bad chest infection last winter and there was no fever at all, only weakness and a light cough. We kept waiting for fever but finally took him to the local clinic when his breathing got fast. Don't wait for the thermometer to show a high number, just consult a nearby doctor.

In my 70 years, I have seen many people get fooled by this. They think no fever means it is just a simple cold, but inside the lungs, the congestion is building up. If you feel tired, have a cough, or find it hard to climb stairs, go see a doctor immediately. Don't take chances at our age.

Managing thyroid has taught me that the body's immune responses can be very unpredictable. Sometimes an infection like pneumonia doesn't trigger a fever, especially if your metabolism is low. It is always safest to get a proper blood test and follow up with a doctor to catch these things early.

I'm always extra careful with health because my PCOS makes my body react weirdly to infections. I have read that afebrile pneumonia is quite real and can happen without any fever. I don't want to give wrong medical advice, so please visit a doctor to get your chest sound checked properly.

Yes, this is very true and actually called walking pneumonia. Please get an oximeter to check your oxygen levels at home and see a doctor if it is below 95.

Pneumonia is like that uninvited guest who doesn't even ring the doorbell (the fever) and just occupies the guest room directly! Yes, it can absolutely happen without a fever, so don't let your digital thermometer lie to you. If your lungs feel heavy, go get a checkup and kick that guest out.

Our elders always say that a cold is fine as long as there is no fever, but modern doctors tell us that pneumonia can be completely silent. My cousin had no temperature but his chest X-ray showed a patch of infection. It is always wiser to trust your doctor's stethoscope over old assumptions.
