Can you have phantom tooth pain?

A bad tooth was extracted a couple of months ago, and the area has healed well. But sometimes, I still feel a strange aching pain, almost like the tooth is still there. Is it possible to experience phantom pain, similar to a limb, but with a tooth?

Yes, absolutely, it actually happens more often than people realize, especially after a root canal or extraction. Even when the nerve is gone, the surrounding tissues can still send pain signals to your brain. Don't keep taking painkillers at home; get it evaluated by your dentist to check if there is an infection nearby.

It is definitely possible to experience pain in a tooth that has been pulled or treated, which is basically a nerve-related issue. However, we cannot self-diagnose this because it could easily be a sinus issue or a neighboring tooth problem. The most sensible step is to consult your dentist for an X-ray to be sure.

I had a similar issue last year and went to a leading dental hospital in Mumbai for a proper checkup. They explained that atypical odontalgia is very real, but you must rule out any deep-seated infection first. I highly recommend booking an appointment with a specialist rather than guessing.

I know how frustrating tooth pain can be, especially when you can't point out the exact spot. Please don't worry too much, just try to rest and avoid very hot or cold drinks. Hope you can see a doctor soon and get some relief.

Haan, tooth pain without even having the tooth there! My root canal tooth still aches sometimes when it rains, and I feel like my body is playing a prank on me at this age. I just do some warm salt water rinses, but honestly, it is best to let the dentist have a look before you lose sleep over it.
