Can you have gastroparesis without vomiting?

I've been experiencing a lot of bloating and feeling full very quickly after eating, and sometimes stomach pain. My doctor mentioned gastroparesis as a possibility, but I rarely vomit. Can someone have gastroparesis even if they don't experience vomiting as a main symptom?

I completely understand how stressful it is to deal with chronic stomach issues when your symptoms don't match the textbook. Yes, you can absolutely have gastroparesis with just severe bloating, nausea, and feeling full too quickly, without actual vomiting. Please try to stay calm and discuss this clearly with a gastroenterologist.

Yes, my sister suffered from this and she rarely vomited, but she had terrible heaviness. We found that drinking warm ginger water thirty minutes before meals helped her digestion slightly, and keeping meals very small and soft made a big difference. Do consult a doctor for a proper treatment plan, though.

Yes, you can. Nausea, bloating, and early satiety are very common gastroparesis symptoms even without vomiting.

I am just reading up on this because I have been feeling extremely full after eating even tiny portions, but I never throw up. Is gastroparesis something that needs special tests to diagnose, or can a general doctor tell by just listening to my symptoms?

Hey, don't worry too much about this. Yes, delayed stomach emptying can happen without you actually throwing up; sometimes it just feels like food is sitting in your chest for hours. Make sure you eat smaller, pureed, or well-cooked meals and don't lie down right after eating.

Yes, it is possible to have slow digestion without vomiting. If your physician permits, a gentle 15-minute walk after your meals can help stimulate gut motility naturally and reduce that heavy, uncomfortable feeling.
