Can you have cervical cancer with a normal pap smear?

My last pap smear report was completely normal, which was a relief. However, a friend recently told me that sometimes even with normal reports, problems like cervical cancer can still exist. I'm just a little anxious about this and wanted to know if that's true.

I'm a bit embarrassed to ask, but is a Pap smear not 100% accurate? If a Pap smear comes back normal, does that mean we still need to get some other tests done to be completely sure?

From what I was reading online, Pap smears can occasionally have false negatives. It seems rare, but if there are symptoms like unusual bleeding, doctors usually recommend an HPV test or a biopsy to confirm.

Yes, false negatives happen in medical tests, just like my BP machines sometimes show wrong readings. Regular checkups and keeping a healthy lifestyle are key. If you have abnormal symptoms, go back to your gynecologist for a detailed physical exam.

Yes, even with a normal Pap smear, cancer can rarely be present if the sample didn't catch the cells. I always suggest keeping the body stress-free with gentle pranayama, but definitely don't skip consulting a specialist if you have abnormal bleeding.

Yes, it is possible. When my wife had her screenings, the doctors at the hospital explained that Pap smears can have a small margin of error. You should ask your doctor clearly about doing an HPV DNA test alongside it for full confirmation.

I totally get how confusing and scary it is to think that a normal test might not be enough. Yes, Pap smears can sometimes miss abnormal cells. If you are experiencing any pain or unusual discharge, please advocate for yourself and ask for more tests.

Please keep your mind peaceful and positive, dear. While Pap tests are generally very good, sometimes they can miss things. Trust your body's signals, stay calm, and seek a second medical opinion if your heart tells you something is not right.
