Can you have a panic attack in your sleep?

Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with my heart pounding and feeling extremely anxious, almost like a sudden wave of fear. I'm trying to figure out what it is. Is it possible to experience a panic attack while you are sleeping?

Bro, yes! It is the worst feeling ever. You literally wake up gasping for breath with your heart racing like crazy, thinking you are dying, even though you were having a totally normal dream.

Yes, hormonal imbalances from PCOS used to give me sudden midnight anxiety and racing heart. It is very scary, but please try to track when it happens and discuss it with your gynecologist or a counselor to find the root cause.

I used to wake up sweating with my chest tight and thought I was having a heart attack. After consulting a therapist, I realized these were just night panic attacks and they are harmless. Knowing this helped me calm down so much, so don't worry.

Yes, you can! It is actually quite common. Just try to listen to some calming music before sleeping and avoid coffee late at night. You got this, sleep well tonight!

Oh god, nocturnal panic attacks are so scary but please don't stress too much, you are completely safe. It happens because our subconscious is still processing daytime anxiety. Keep a glass of water by your bed and take slow, deep breaths if it happens again.
