Can you have a heart attack for days?

My chacha ji had what doctors described as a prolonged heart attack, where he felt symptoms for several days before going to the hospital. I thought heart attacks were sudden. Can you have a heart attack that lasts for days, or with symptoms spread across days?

Actually, you cannot have an active heart attack for days, but you can experience warning signs like angina or mild chest pain leading up to it. Since I have high BP, I am very careful about any chest tightness that lasts for more than a day. Please get a proper checkup and an ECG done to rule out any blockages.

Beta, a heart attack is a sudden and very serious event, it does not slowly happen for days. If you have been having chest discomfort for days, it might be due to bad gas, muscle strain, or acidity, for which a little warm ginger tea can help. But if the pain is severe or worsens, please consult a proper doctor immediately.

Honestly, after pulling three all-nighters in a row, my chest feels so heavy that I worry if I am having a slow-motion heart attack! But jokes apart, continuous chest discomfort for days is usually stress or bad acidity. Still, don't play with your health—go see a doctor and get some sleep.

I am new here and reading about this is a bit scary. Is it possible for a person to have a very mild heart attack that feels like slow chest pain for days without them even realizing it? How can we know if it is just muscle pain or something worse?

If you are having chest pain for days, getting an ECG and basic blood tests done is the safest option. A simple ECG in a local clinic only costs around 200 to 300 rupees, which is very affordable and gives peace of mind. It is much better to spend a little on basic tests early rather than facing heavy hospital expenses later.

A full-blown heart attack requires immediate medical intervention, but sometimes 'silent' heart attacks or minor blockages can cause lingering symptoms over days. I had severe complications because I ignored a dull chest ache for two days, thinking it was nothing. Please see a cardiologist right away if you feel any persistent discomfort.

An actual heart attack is an acute medical emergency, but people can experience 'stuttering' chest pain or angina symptoms on and off for days before a major event. If you are experiencing persistent chest pressure, sweating, or breathlessness, please don't wait. Go to the nearest emergency room immediately for proper tests.
