Can you have a fit in your sleep?

My grandson has been having some strange movements while sleeping, almost like his body jerks uncontrollably. My bahu is worried. Can a person actually have a 'fit' or seizure type activity in their sleep without waking up?

Yes, my neurologist explained that certain types of epilepsy, like frontal lobe epilepsy, predominantly occur during sleep. Please consult a specialist for a video-EEG study.

Yes, my cousin used to have seizures only during her sleep. It is very important to get a proper diagnosis from a specialist doctor so they can help manage it.

Yes, nocturnal seizures are a real medical condition. Instead of waiting or guessing, please book an appointment with a neurologist immediately for a proper EEG test.

My father had an episode like this once during his sleep. We didn't try any self-treatment and took him straight to a neurologist the very next morning.
