Can you hallucinate from lack of sleep?

I've been working crazy hours lately and haven't slept properly for almost two days. Yesterday, I started seeing strange patterns and hearing faint whispers, which really freaked me out. Can just lack of sleep make you hallucinate like this?

I didn't know this was actually possible and it sounds really scary. Does this happen only after several days of no sleep, or can it happen even after just one night of insomnia? If anyone knows how to calm down after seeing such things, please share.

In my younger days, I used to work double shifts and after about 48 hours without rest, my eyes would play tricks on me. It is simply the brain's way of shutting down due to extreme exhaustion. Don't worry too much, but please prioritize your sleep before your health suffers.

With hormonal issues like PCOS, my sleep cycle often gets totally messed up, and severe sleep debt can definitely make you feel disoriented. If you are hallucinating, it's a sign your brain is extremely fatigued. Please take it seriously and discuss it with a doctor if you can't sleep.

While extreme sleep deprivation is the main cause of hallucinations, what you eat can also affect your sleep quality. Avoiding heavy dinners and warm chamomile tea can help you sleep better. However, if you are already seeing things, you need to sleep immediately and consult a doctor if it continues.

Oh, after pulling an all-nighter for exams while surviving on instant noodles, I swear I saw my study lamp floating. The brain does weird things when it's starved of sleep and fueled by caffeine. Grab a heavy meal and crash for 8 hours, you'll be fine.

I literally went through this last semester during my project submissions. After almost 50 hours of no sleep, I started seeing shadows moving out of the corner of my eye. It was terrifying, but the moment I got a solid 10 hours of sleep, everything went back to normal.
