Can you go to war if you have asthma?

My biggest dream is to serve in the armed forces, even in combat situations if needed. But I've had mild asthma since childhood, though I manage it well. Would having asthma disqualify me from serving in the military, especially for active duty in a war zone?

From what I've tracked in military health standards, active asthma is a red flag. Combat zones have dust, smoke, and extreme physical strain, which can trigger severe attacks. You can track your lung capacity with smart devices, but the final medical clearance lies with official military doctors.

I once ignored my mild breathing issues during a high-altitude trek and ended up in the ICU. War zones have the worst possible environmental triggers, and you cannot risk an attack there. Please consult a specialist and a military medical board before even considering enlistment.

Honestly, the physical tests for the army are insane, and with asthma, it would be extremely tough and risky. I have friends preparing for NDA and they say even minor issues can get you rejected during medicals. Better to check their official brochure for the exact rules.

Joining the military is a noble dream, but physical fitness guidelines are very strict for a reason. Usually, a history of active asthma after the age of 13 makes it very difficult to pass medical screening. Talk to a military recruiter to get the exact and current medical criteria.
