Can you go to sleep with a concussion?

Got a minor head injury during a fall, and now I have a mild headache. I feel a bit dizzy and tired. I remember being told not to sleep if you have a concussion. Is it really dangerous to go to sleep when you have a concussion?

When we recover from intense training or head knocks, rest is the ultimate tool for recovery. However, with a concussion, you must get a professional checkup before you go to sleep. Proper nutrition and hydration are key, but getting a medical green light is always step one.

I literally went through this last month after a bad bike slip. The ER doctor told me that sleeping is actually critical for the brain to heal, but I had to make sure someone woke me up every few hours for the first night. Don't sleep if you are feeling extremely drowsy or nauseous though.

We always consult a specialist at a proper hospital whenever head injuries happen. The doctor will perform some basic cognitive tests to see if sleeping immediately is safe for you. Please don't rely on online forums; book a consultation or visit an emergency room.

Got a mild concussion playing cricket last semester. My doc said it's totally fine to sleep, but only after he did a quick checkup to rule out any serious internal bleeding. Don't just crash on your bed directly, get it looked at first.

It can be very worrying to deal with a head injury. Sleep is gentle medicine for the brain, but please make sure a doctor has checked you over first to ensure you are safe. Take care of yourself and rest well.
