Can you give yourself diabetes?

I have a terrible sweet tooth and often indulge in a lot of sugary foods and drinks. My parents keep telling me that I'm going to 'give myself diabetes' if I don't stop. Is it true that bad eating habits alone can cause diabetes?

I practically invited Type 2 diabetes into my life by eating late-night junk food, sleeping 4 hours, and staying glued to my desk. Once I reversed my lifestyle, my HbA1c came back to normal. Yes, your daily habits can definitely trigger it if you are not careful.

I thought I was safe because I am young, but my high sugar intake and zero workouts got my sugar levels near pre-diabetic range last year. I cut down sweet tea and started gymming, and it came down. So yes, poor habits will catch up with you.

My doctor at Kokilaben Hospital explained that Type 2 diabetes is largely a lifestyle condition, though genetics also matter. Don't rely on self-diagnosis; ask a qualified diabetologist to do an HbA1c test and guide you properly.

Let's be real—sedentary lifestyle, high stress, and constant processed food delivery are the perfect recipe for insulin resistance. While genetics play a role, your choices determine whether you activate those genes. Get moving and clean up your diet.

I am really scared because everyone in my family has sugar issues, and I tend to eat a lot of sweets when stressed. Can we really prevent it just by walking, or is it bound to happen because of genetics? I would appreciate any gentle tips.
