Can you give half a liver?

My father needs a liver transplant, and I'm exploring all options to help him. I've heard that sometimes a living donor can give a part of their liver. Is it true that you can donate 'half a liver' and both the donor and recipient can recover?

Wait, this sounds so intense but it is actually a thing! Our bio professor told us that the liver can literally grow back to its full size in just a few months. Human body is crazy, but definitely talk to a real surgeon before thinking about it.

I was just reading about living liver donation online yesterday! Apparently, they can take a part of your liver (like a lobe) and transplant it, and both your remaining part and the recipient's new part grow back to almost normal size. Still sounds scary though, so proper medical advice is a must.

My relative had to donate a portion of their liver to their child, and the surgery went perfectly. The liver regenerates amazingly fast, within weeks. Just find a highly reputed transplant hospital and trust the process under expert pediatric surgeons.

Such a big sacrifice requires a lot of courage, beta. While the body has miraculous healing power, you must take absolute care of your health with fresh home-cooked food and no oil or alcohol if you undergo such surgery. Always consult the senior-most doctors first.

Yes, living donor liver transplants are common, but the pre-evaluation tests like MRIs and blood work can be quite expensive. You need to verify if the recipient's insurance covers all your testing and recovery costs before proceeding with the hospital paperwork.

I donated a lobe of my liver to my uncle six months ago. The first two weeks of recovery were tough, but now my liver has fully grown back and my liver function tests are completely normal. It is doable, but choose your transplant center very wisely.

My friend's brother did this last year to save their dad. It is a massive surgery, no doubt, but the recovery is beautiful because the liver is the only organ that can regenerate like this. Just make sure you have a strong support system at home for the post-op care.

Yes, you can donate a portion, but keep in mind your diet has to be super clean and simple for a long time after surgery. No spicy street food or rich butter chicken for months while your liver is busy growing back. Make sure you are ready for that commitment!

Our family hepatologist explained that they usually take about 50 to 60 percent of the donor's liver. The remaining portion starts regenerating immediately and reaches nearly full size in about 8 to 12 weeks. However, the donor must go through a highly rigorous physical and psychological assessment first.

I might have to donate a part of my liver to a family member soon and I am incredibly scared. Does the surgery cause long-term weakness, or does life really go back to normal? I would love to hear from anyone who has actually gone through this.
