Can you get type 2 diabetes without being overweight?

My family has a history of Type 2 diabetes, but I've always maintained a healthy weight. Most information I find links it to being overweight, so I'm a bit confused. Can someone actually develop Type 2 diabetes even if they are not overweight or obese?

Yes, you actually can! I love my street food and have always been quite lean, but my doctor warned me that internal fat and genetics can still trigger Type 2 diabetes. Being thin doesn't mean we can eat sweets all day without consequences, unfortunately!

Haan beta, humare padosi bilkul duble-patle hain fir bhi unhe sugar ki bimari ho gayi. It depends on your family history and how much stress you take. Please go to a good doctor in town and get your blood tested.

Honestly, this is so true. My roommate is skinny as a stick but got diagnosed with high blood sugar during a routine college camp. It's a huge myth that only overweight people get it, so everyone should keep an eye on their health.

At 50, I've realized our bodies don't care how thin you look from the outside; it's all about what's happening inside! I have friends who run marathons and still have Type 2. Don't let a normal weight fool you, get your regular annual health checkups done.

I was diagnosed with Type 2 last year despite having a normal BMI, which shocked me. My doctor explained that 'lean diabetes' is quite common in India due to genetics and muscle-to-fat ratio. I managed to reverse it with a strict low-carb diet and strength training, so get checked regardless of your weight.
