Can you get tb from a tb skin test?

My cousin was recently diagnosed with active TB, and I hugged and briefly kissed him on the cheek a few days before he got tested. I'm really worried now. Is it possible to contract tuberculosis through kissing or close casual contact like that?

No, you absolutely cannot get TB from the skin test. The test only uses a purified protein derivative, not the live bacteria itself. I am always extra cautious about medical procedures due to my PCOS health anxiety, but this test is completely safe.

I had to take this Mantoux skin test last year before joining my new job. The doctor explained to me that there is zero active bacteria in the injection, so it is physically impossible to catch TB from it. It just caused a tiny red bump on my arm which went away in two days.

No, you cannot get TB from the skin test. As someone who has to get regular blood tests for thyroid, I know clinical tests can seem scary, but this one is totally safe. Just make sure you go back to your doctor after 48-72 hours to get the skin reaction read correctly.

Arre, my doctor made me take this test and I was also scratching my head thinking the same thing. But no, they just inject a harmless protein, not the actual germ. It is just a routine checkup, so don't lose sleep over it.

Haha, don't worry at all! The skin test is just a tiny poke to see how your immune system reacts. It is like a mock drill for your body, there is no actual villain in that needle to give you TB!
