Can you get skin cancer without being in the sun?

My sister was diagnosed with skin cancer, but she rarely spends time outdoors and always uses sunscreen. This has really confused me. Can someone develop skin cancer even if they don't have a lot of sun exposure?

Yes, you can, and it is incredibly hard to accept when it happens. I used to blame myself thinking I did something wrong, but some skin cancers develop in areas that never see the sun, like soles of feet or under nails. It is emotionally exhausting but please know you are not alone.

Wait, really? I always thought staying indoors eating biryani would keep me safe from skin issues! But actually, genetics and other factors can cause skin cancer even without sun exposure. Guess we still need to pay attention to our skin health, sun or no sun.

I completely understand how terrifying this sounds, especially when you think you are doing everything right by staying indoors. Yes, skin cancer can happen due to genetics or radiation even without sun exposure. Please don't let this spiral your anxiety, just be mindful of any skin changes.

Yes, non-solar skin cancer is possible, but don't panic and spend thousands on random full-body scans. If you have a family history, plan a budget for a yearly dermatologist consult which is quite affordable. It is better to plan practically rather than getting expensive tests in a rush.

As a mother, I learned that skin cancers can sometimes develop in areas completely hidden from the sun, even due to genetic factors. I always do a quick check on my kids' skin during their bath. It is always best to keep an eye out and consult a doctor if you spot any unusual moles.

This thought literally keeps me awake at night because I thought staying inside meant I was totally safe! But yes, it can happen in unexposed areas too. Let's just support each other and make sure we get any strange moles checked by a doctor instead of worrying silently.

I can only share what happened to a colleague of mine who worked an office desk job with zero sun exposure. He developed a malignant spot on his foot, which the doctor said was a type of skin cancer not related to the sun. It made me realize we must check our entire body.

Yes, certain types of skin cancer like melanoma can appear on parts of the body that are never exposed to daylight. If you see any new, unusual dark spots on your palms, soles, or under your nails, please get it checked by a skin specialist immediately for safety.

Many people don't know this, but yes, you can get skin cancer without sun exposure. Factors like genetics, exposure to certain chemicals, or a weak immune system play a big role. It is a good practice to examine your skin once a month so you know what is normal for you.
