Can you get scarlet fever without strep?

My child has a rash that looks like scarlet fever, but her throat doesn't seem to be hurting much. I always thought strep throat was a must for scarlet fever. Can you actually get scarlet fever without having strep throat symptoms first?

I agree with others, it is always linked to the strep bacteria. Definitely get a throat culture done.

That's like asking if you can have chole bhature without the bhatura! Scarlet fever is literally caused by the strep bacteria toxin, so they usually go hand in hand. Don't worry too much, a simple test will clear it up.

From what our biology professor mentioned, they are basically part of the same package. The red rash is just your body reacting to the strep bug. Better to get it checked by a doctor than guessing on Google.

I was researching this yesterday! Actually, scarlet fever is caused by the toxins released by the strep bacteria itself. So you can't have the actual scarlet fever rash without having that specific strep infection in your body.

Please don't delay getting a doctor's opinion. I once ignored a sore throat thinking it was just a mild cold, and it turned into a severe bacterial issue that took weeks to cure. Always get a professional checkup.

They are clinically connected because the strep bacteria is what triggers the scarlet fever rash. Please be cautious and get a proper diagnosis from a clinic so you can treat it safely without any complications.

No, scarlet fever is specifically a reaction to the group A strep bacterial infection. Whenever my kids got high fever, I kept a watch on my own stress levels and BP, and always got them tested immediately.
