Can you get rid of diabetes once you have it?

My father has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and it feels like a lifelong condition. I'm trying to understand if it's ever possible to completely get rid of diabetes once it's been diagnosed, or is it always something you just manage?

I agree with most here, you can't cure it fully but remission is possible through strict low-carb living.

Replacing white rice and maida with millets like ragi and jowar worked wonders for my family's health. You can manage diabetes beautifully if you focus on high-fiber vegetarian meals and completely avoid packaged sweets.

Actually yaar, once you get it, you just have to live a bit more mindfully. It is not like some end-of-the-world disease anymore, my whole family has it and everyone is super active.

I totally get it, the constant worry about what to eat can be so exhausting. Just take it one day at a time, your body will adapt to the healthier habits sooner than you think.

Drinking methi water in the morning and eating jamun seeds helps a lot in managing the high sugar levels. However, if your sugar is very high, please do not stop your hospital medicines without asking your doctor.

My physician clearly explained that the term 'cure' is medically incorrect for diabetes. We call it 'remission' where your blood glucose remains normal without medication, but the genetic tendency always remains.

I have been reading up on this because my dad has diabetes. It seems Type 2 can go into remission, but Type 1 is a different story and needs insulin lifelong. It is quite fascinating how much diet affects this.

I tried karela juice, neem leaf powder, and whatnot for my sugar levels. While these home remedies support your body, nothing replaces daily medicine and physical exercise for proper control.

I know how terrifying it feels when you first get diagnosed; I couldn't sleep for weeks. Just take a deep breath, it is highly manageable with modern lifestyle changes and you will live a long, healthy life.

Using a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) sensor helped me understand how different foods spike my sugar. By tracking everything on my app, I have managed to reverse my prediabetes completely.

It is honestly so tough to say goodbye to hot samosas and gulab jamuns forever. But keeping a check on daily cravings and switching to sugar-free alternatives makes living with diabetes much easier.

I was diagnosed with Type 2 last year with an HbA1c of 8.2. Through dedicated daily walking and strict portion control, my latest reading is 5.6 and my doctor has stopped my daily pills.
