Can you get pregnant with one kidney?

I was born with only one kidney, and while it's never really caused me major health issues, I'm now thinking about starting a family. I'm a bit concerned. Can you get pregnant successfully with one kidney?

I asked this at Kasturba Hospital for a relative. The doctors said a single kidney can easily handle a pregnancy, but you must ask your doctor clearly to monitor your kidney function and blood pressure regularly during the nine months.

Yes, daughter, you can absolutely get pregnant and have a healthy baby with one kidney. My neighbor has only one kidney since childhood and she has two healthy children. Just keep visiting your doctor regularly.

I know how scary it is to think about how your body will handle pregnancy with a single kidney. It is completely normal to worry. But don't worry, many women do this safely with just a little extra medical care.

Yes, you can! A single healthy kidney is more than enough to filter wastes during pregnancy. Just make sure you stay well hydrated, eat a balanced diet, and let your gynaecologist coordinate with a nephrologist to be safe.

Yes, absolutely! 😊 Many women who have donated a kidney or were born with one have perfectly normal pregnancies. Just keep up with your regular checkups and enjoy the journey!

While it is physically possible, don't just rely on comforting stories online. Your remaining kidney's current function levels must be tested before you plan. Please get your creatinine levels checked and consult an expert.

Yes, conceived and delivered successfully in most cases. The key is monitoring. Ensure you have a good medical team tracking your kidney function tests throughout the trimesters, and you will be completely fine.
