Can you get malaria in the united states?

My cousin is moving to the United States for her higher studies. She's a bit concerned about health issues in a new country. She asked me to check if malaria is a common problem there, or if one can get it in the US.

Hey there! ☀️ It is extremely rare to get malaria in the US as they cleared it out decades ago. You might only hear of rare cases from travelers, so you are totally safe to enjoy your trip! ✈️

No, malaria isn't a threat in the US. Just focus on keeping your fitness levels high, eating clean protein, and staying active while traveling so your immune system stays top-notch.

You don't have to worry about malaria there. Just make sure you carry your regular medicines for BP or sugar, and get a routing checkup before you go so you are stress-free during the flight.

Don't stress about mosquitoes in the US. Instead, worry about which pizza joint to try first! You can eat out late at night without any fear of malaria.

I was also very worried about this before my cousin moved to Texas last year. Has anyone else felt scared about strange bugs when traveling abroad, or is it just my anxiety acting up?

I totally get why you are asking, but honestly, you can breathe easy. The US eliminated local malaria long ago, so unless someone travels with the infection, you won't get it there.

The United States is considered a non-endemic zone for malaria, meaning local transmission is non-existent. If you have specific concerns about travel health, a quick chat with your doctor will give you peace of mind.
