Can you get lung cancer without smoking?

My grandmother was diagnosed with lung cancer recently, and it's very confusing because she never smoked a single cigarette in her life. How is that possible? Can you get lung cancer without smoking?

Yes, you can. My grandfather never touched a cigarette in his life, but his doctor explained that exposure to heavy air pollution, radon gas, or secondhand smoke can also cause lung cancer. We must trust medical science and get any persistent cough checked properly.

About 10 to 20 percent of lung cancers actually occur in people who have never smoked. Things like genetic factors, asbestos exposure at work, or passive smoking play a big role. If you have a cough lasting more than three weeks, please get a chest X-ray done.

It's scary to think that even after skipping cigarettes and focusing only on hot samosas and filter coffee, one can get lung issues! Pollution in our major cities is getting so bad that our lungs are basically smoking passively anyway, so we must be very careful.

Listen, don't get too scared by this information. While it is true that non-smokers can get lung cancer due to environmental factors, it is still relatively less common. Just keep your living spaces well-ventilated and take care of your overall immunity.

I was researching this recently because of the crazy smog levels in Delhi. It turns out that long-term exposure to outdoor PM2.5 pollution is a major risk factor for lung cancer in non-smokers, which is really eye-opening and worrying.

Beta, the air we breathe these days is full of dust and chemical smoke from factories, which can harm the lungs of even the most innocent people. Drink warm water with honey and tulsi to soothe your throat, and always wear a mask when you go out in heavy traffic.
